Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer but wish we didn’t. ~Erica Jong, How to Save Your Own Life, 1977
So I went to the doctor’s today for a full physical. Nothing wrong, I just haven’t had a physical in, um, never. Everything went fine until we started talking about my weight. Now my doctor is not a nutritionist or a personal trainer, but I figured as a doc, she’d have some advice for me.
Here’s the gist of what she said: Get more sleep, eat different foods, and get exercising.
Um, thanks? Does anyone not know that already? How about something useful, something I can really use? She gave me a picture of a plate divided into sections that shows different foods and proper sizes. Really? That’s all ya got?
Listen, I know what I need to do. I’d guess that pretty much anyone in this country could tell you the basics of losing weight. I guess I was just hoping the doctor would have some magical solution.
At least I have a picture.
