Food Log – 4/12/12

Today could have been a disaster but I knew it was coming, so I was prepared. I had a work lunch for a colleague who is leaving. My boss picked the restaurant, which is not anywhere I would have picked. (Seriously, take a look at this menu! The Hamilton) With very few healthy options on the menu, I just decided from the start I was going to be strong and stick to my plan. The restaurant wouldn’t make healthy substitutions (for example, crabcakes only fried, not broiled), fish options didn’t look good and I wasn’t a fan of the salads so I think I made a good choice with a roasted turkey sammy (hold the cheese and mayo, keep the avocado!) and side salad. I did get creme brulee for dessert, but only ate half. Literally, I pushed my plate to the other side of the table! OK, so I didn’t need the dessert but half the creme brulee is better than all of the Gooey Chocolate Cake that I would have gotten! Also, I not only walked back and forth to the restaurant (a little more than 3 miles) but got my whole office to walk as well. Hooray for all of us!

So I probably could have done without the Chinese for dinner, but it was one of those nights! I made OK choices and kept to smaller portions. Now I just need to drink a gallon of water to get rid of all this sodium!
