Quick Foodie Penpals tutorial: Lindsay over at The Lean Green Bean runs it every month. You have to opt in each month so you choose how often to participate. You get sent a name and email address, contact that person for their address and other information (special diet, allergies, etc.) and then mail them a food package. The person who sends you a package is a totally different person.
I haven’t done a Foodie Penpals in a while. OK, a year, whatever. Here’s the problem. I really enjoy shopping for other people. I put a lot of thought into it and get pleasure out of it. Unfortunately, I usually get carried away and then still have to pay for mailing. But I haven’t done it in a while so I thought I’d give it another go. I was matched up to mail to Maya, who blogs at Chumpkin Butter. I like doing theme packages but ran out of time, so I send Maya some of my favorite things. Check out her blog* to see what I sent her. I received a package from Shelly.
Shelly sent me foods that are manufactured close to where she lives. It wasn’t exactly a healthy foods package, but it was really thoughtful. I enjoyed seeing the companies close to her and reading her card about each one. Dying to know what I got, right?
- veggie sticks from Weis
- pretzels from Utz
- barbecue sauce
- Special K pastry crisps
- Orbitz gum
- a vanilla sugar mix
- a cinnamon mix (P.S., this smelled incredible. As soon as I opened the box, it took over and the whole kitchen smelled yummy!
- Sparking Ice drink
* This is, of course, dependent on her blogging about her Foodie Penpal experience.
I am in chocolate lovers heaven!
Check out the stash I got from June’s Foodie Penpals!

I hit the chocolate jackpot this month thanks to Kirsten, who blogs over at Kiss, Laugh and Dream.
I have to admit, while I didn’t eat every bite of everything, I did have at least a taste of it all. And honey, it was all good! The Choxie chocolate bar was my favorite. Chocolate, peanut butter, pretzel, peanuts . . . what’s not to love? My husband ate up the Godiva chocolate bar and he and the kid shared the Lindt chocolates. (If you think these two are going to let me keep a box of goodies all to myself, you must be crazy!) The rest? Mine. All mine. The package came at the perfect time, right before I was leaving for a business trip. The Balance bars were perfect on the car ride and the pistachios were great in the hotel room. I love pistachios for a million reasons but most of all because they take longer to eat so I feel like I’m getting more! I brought a loaf of bread with me (yes, I’m that person in the hotel eating sandwiches in her room!) so the Justin’s peanut butter and hazelnut butter were great on sammies! Last but not least, I put the York Peppermint Patty pieces in the freezer, where they still are. I have a handful and put the rest back for later. Delicious now and delicious to come!
For my penpal, I sent a pretty awesome package of foods that tell a little about me. The person I sent to doesn’t blog and I never heard back from her, so I’ll just assume she liked it all! I really like the stuff I got so I may copycat myself and do it again next month!
Past Foodie Penpals
Have ya heard about Foodie Penpals? It’s pretty simple. Lindsay over at The Lean Green Bean runs it every month. You get sent a name and email address, contact that person for their address and other information (allergies, etc.) and then mail them a food package. The person who sends you a package is a totally different person. It’s fun to see what you’ll get and I have a good time picking out stuff for the other person.
This month the person who got me was Stephanie. She doesn’t have a blog so I can’t link to her but she sent some great stuff! In a very thoughtful way, Stephanie sent a box of food that would take me from the start of a day through the end.
Wanna see what I got?
To start the day, hot cereal with agave nectar and snack mix for a morning snack. I’ve been wanting to try the agave nectar so I was super excited to get it. And just as I thought, it’s yummy! For after lunch, a chocolate mint bar. I’ve never had any of the NutriSystem foods before and this bar was pretty tasty. I’d get it again and freeze it, like Thin Mints! Next, jelly beans for an afternoon snack, and for after dinner, trail mix and a cup of tea. (Should I divulge that I can, and did, eat the whole bag of trail mix in one sitting?)
I’m kinda bummed that neither the person who I sent to and the person who sent to me have blogs, but I hope Christine who I sent to liked her package! I did email Stephanie to let her know how much I appreciated what she sent me.
Until next time . . .
